Back at School, Back at Work

It's time to be productive.  Everyone is out of the house.  So time to get my work on...

Today's project:  Cleaning out the kitchen cabinets that have food in them.  (Our pantry is too small.)

If I have enough time when I finish that, I'm cleaning out my dresser drawers.

That ought to keep me hopping.

What a CRAZY day!

Sometimes I'd love to be a fly on the wall of my day.  I think it would be hilarious to just sit back and watch the insanity unfold.

It all started yesterday.  I noticed that we had a late start at school today.  Awesome.  That's the best of both worlds.  Right?  Sleep later and then send the kids to school.

Enter this morning.

We woke up about 7:30.  Not too bad.  The boys normally leave at 7:30.  I'll take it.  Anyway, I waited a bit and then turned the TV on just to see if we were still on track for a late start and not a cancellation.  I watched the crawler on the TV and finally saw it.  That's also when I saw that there would be some "rolling brown outs" during the day.  They would last for fifteen minutes.  That doesn't seem long.  And if it helps some area in Texas that is in a major pinch, I'm cool with that.

Not five minutes later - - the power shut off.

That was fast.

I curled up under the blankets and waited.  And waited.  And waited.

Mr. B finally decided to use the emergency release on the garage door so that he could manually open it and go to work.

I waited some more.  I saw a notice on FB (through my phone) that said for outages longer than fifteen minutes to call AEP (the power company.)  So I called.  No answer.  Just some automated answer about Laredo.

I tried to call the school.  Busy signal.

I tried to call the power company again.  Busy signal.

Are you kidding me?

I then called Cam's kindergarten teacher's cell.  I got through to her and found out there wasn't power at the school either.  (That's why their phones weren't working.)  She said she didn't think they'd punish anyone who didn't make it in for the day.  It was cold.  And before any of you from more northern climates start to make fun - - know that we aren't used to this kind of weather.  At all.  I know that if my kids are at home, they can be bundled up under blankets.  Being at school would suck.  And what would they fix them for lunch?

I finally got through to the power company.  She said that we should have power by 10:00.  This was at 9:45.  At 10:30, I decided enough was enough.  It was cooling off inside fast.  By 11:00 we were loaded in the van and headed to Little Caesar's to grab a couple of pizzas and take them over to my parent's house.  (Not a hiccup in the power there at all.)

At 12:00, Mr. B called me and said that a friend of ours, who lives close to us, texted him and said that the power was back on.

Fifteen minutes turned into four hours.

When I had left the house, I had to manually open the garage door.  That meant anyone could open it.  So I locked the house door.  I took the keys for the front door and figured I could get in that way.  (I don't even have a key to the garage house door.)  When we got home, I got to the front door and guess what?  The freakin' screen door was locked.  (We do that now because of the neighborhood hellion.  Yes, he still walks right in.  That's another story for another day.)  The glass was pulled up, so there was no breaking in.  We were locked out.

I tried every key I had on every door.  No suck luck.

I finally called Mr. B.  He said he had a key but wasn't sure to which door.  He came home and sure enough, it was to the back door.  BUT - the alarm was set.  So it triggered the alarm.  (That door doesn't give you time to turn off the alarm.  It's an automatic trigger.)  The alarm company didn't call.  (They normally do and you give a code word that everything is okay.)  Instead, the police department did.  I told them I was fine.  But they said they had to send an officer by to do a safety check, just in case I was being coached on my wording.  The alarm wasn't the burglar alarm.  It was the panic alarm.  Who knows why.  This was the live police alert that showed up online.  They didn't have our house number right.  Hmmmmm.

The officer showed up and was very nice.  I explained the situation to him and he went on his way.

About an hour later, the phone rang again.

This time it was a reporter from our local paper.  He said that some lady had referred me to her.  He started asking about my day.  I was confused as all get out.  How did they know about me?  Are there cameras following me around or what?  I finally figured out it was Facebook.  A friend of mine told a reporter about me.  I wish I'd known to expect the call.  I feel like I rambled a lot.  I hate it when I can't form a coherent sentence.  Call me "Obama", I need a teleprompter.  LOL!

Things have settled down since then.  No more power outages.  I hope that holds true during American Idol tonight.

Whew.  What a day.

Ice Day!

Mommy and Daddy!  It snowed!  No school today!
(It started out as a two hour delay.  I groaned at the thought.  Then they called it for the day.  A lot of ice.  We did get snow.  But it's on top of a lot of ice.)

Can you see the snowflake about to touch his tongue?

Ready, aim, FIRE!

I told you.  Lots of ice.  This last picture was taken about ten minutes ago.  The stuff on the asphalt has melted.  But the concrete and other stuff?  Not so much.  It is COLD outside!  And gonna get colder.  The high tomorrow is 20.  The low tomorrow night?  8!

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I made a pot of turkey chili and cooked cornbread in the cast iron skillet.  Yummmmmmy.  Mr. B worked from home.  I folded laundry and laid around under an electric blanket.  It was nice.

Radar Red

There is red on the weather radar.  That makes me nervous.  This is where Shannon always had my back.  It will be a long storm season without her.  :(  She would have texted me about this already.

*sigh*

Friday Greetings

Today is off to a roaring start!  It started at 6:00 when Justin asked if he could get up already.  Grrrrrrr.  That woke Cameron up.  And that put Cameron in a pissy mood.  I hope he perked up before he arrived at school.

I cleaned their bathroom as soon as they were out the door.  Gross.  I will never understand boys and toothpaste.  It's disgusting.  They don't care what the tube of toothpaste looks like.  And then when they spit in the sink...  Just rinse it out already!  And don't even get me started on the pee on the toilet seat.  Eeeeeewwww!

I'm about to start the Friday edition of the Bray laundry.  It never ends.  Then, I'm attacking the kitchen, making the beds, vacuuming, showering and headed to get my hair cut and nails done.  Then back to the house to start working on cleaning off my desk/table and scrapbook shelf.  Ugh.  Busy, busy, busy!

It will all be worth it when I can chill in the morning.  J's basketball game isn't until 1:00.  Yay!  Then I hope to scrapbook.  That may not happen until Monday, but I'll be ready.  I've got some catching up to do.

I still have lots of chest crud, but I think I could successfully walk now.  I plan on starting back up tomorrow. I lost a whole week.  That stinks.

Onward and upward though.  Right?

I gotta jet.  Have a great Friday and enjoy your weekend!

Wednesday, January 26

Hi again.

Boring blog.  Sorry.

I've had some kind of chest crud for almost a week now.  I'm tired of it.  And - - I'm just tired.  I can't get caught up.  Zero energy.  I guess coughing my head off doesn't help.  No fever.  At all.  To quote Cameron, "Huh.  Weird."  (He says that a lot.)

The Spurs won tonight.  That always makes me smile.  Late game.  That's why I'm still up.  I get keyed up during those games and have to wind down afterward.  Those late games kill me.

I have a confession to make.  *hangs head in shame*  I'm watching The Bachelor this season.  I know.  I KNOW!  I told myself I was just going to watch the first one because I saw the previews where that one chick slapped the crap out of him when she met him.  Big mistake.  I got hooked.  Gah.  Stupid show.  And, I'd like to point out, you could get "stupid drunk" if you played a drinking game while watching the show.  Take a drink every time he uses an adverb.  He truly uses them a lot.  Seriously.  He profusely uses them.  He's a doof.

I'm making chicken lasagna for the family tomorrow night.  They dig this meal.  I can't say that I blame them.  It's good stuff.  Then Friday night is date night.  Woo hoo!  I love date nights.

I have an appointment with Justin's teacher in the morning.  He's struggling with his reading.  I get so frustrated working with him.  I try to remember that he can't understand every word.  Especially with our butchered up English language.  For example:  know.  He looked at me like I was on crack when I told him that the "k" was silent.  I wanted to tell him that I feel his pain.  But I tried to be encouraging.  He gets frustrated with himself and tries to rush through.  I want to visit with his teacher and I want him to see that she and I are on the same page.

Cameron is, well, Cameron.  He is our talker.  Justin NEVER got in trouble in Kindergarten.  He doesn't this year either.  I always get comments on his good behavior.  But Cam?  Ha!  That little turd has his own plans some days.  It makes me laugh because Mr. B thinks Cam is his mini-me.  And he is when it comes to being smart.  But he acts like his momma more!  (That's my boy!  *giggle*)  Let's face it.  There are parts of the day that can be very boring.  I'm sure I'd lay around on that little carpet in the classroom and opt out of work occasionally.  Some days he's just not in the mood to do his work.  He says that his brain tells him he needs a break.  Whatever dude.  Do your work.  Stinker.

Not much else going on.  I need to walk.  But I'm thinking I'll be pooped after five minutes.  Maybe I should walk, but just keep the speed on slow.  At least I'd be moving.

I gotta jet.  My Ambien is kicking in.  I gotta go to bed before I hit the pantry.  This medicine gives me the late night munchies.  I hate that.  So I'm outta here.

Have a fantastic Thursday!

Love you fans!!!

My nose is cold.

And I don't like that.

But I'll take it over those dang hot flashes any day!

Happy Birthday Shawna!!!

You are an amazing friend!  I hope your day is filled with much love and happiness.

I need this song.

You know how I like movie scores, right? This is from Steel Magnolias. I want it BAD. This CD is a rare, hard to find one. The few I've found are expensive. We're talking, no cheaper than $60, expensive. That's too high. I just want this one song. It's beautiful. It's from the darkest, most sad part of the movie. But it's also the most beautiful. This song played through my head a lot in the days following Shannon's death.

I just want the song. In some weird way - - I find it soothing. It is done by Georges Delerue. It is just gorgeous. Any recommendations? Without sawing off my left arm to pay for it?

Vinegar smells nasty.

Just cleaned the coffee pot.  Gross.  Now my house reeks of vinegar.  It's so disgusting.  I ran an additional load of water through the pot just to be safe.  I cannot have my coffee tasting like vinegar in the morning.  That would be the ultimate coffee foul.  *shudder*

On another note, I finished that fifth book in the KK series.  Wow.  I cried my way through the last third of that book.  Good stuff.  I want to dive into the next series.  But I think a break from the Baxter family would be nice. I have another book I'm thinking about.  I'll let you know.

I've had some kind of nasty chest crud since Friday.  I feel a little better this morning.  I was awake for about an hour at 3 this morning.  Cough, cough, cough, cough...  It was exhausting.  Then my goofball boys were up at the crack of dawn.  Ugh.

No football for me today.  (As if that's a shocker to anyone.)

Someone I love has a birthday tomorrow!  I'll post more about her tomorrow.  My friends are the best.  *grin*

Okay - - I'm outta here.

My Injury...

I told you I bruised it!  Ugh.  Still tender, too.  I'm not limping anymore though.  So that's good.

Reality Check

Sometimes it's the little reminders to be grateful. I was headed back to work from my lunch break. I sat in the parking lot in my car fo...
